Mighty MG at Charterhouse Auction

A 1947 MG TC is one of a great selection of classic cars being sold by Charterhouse in their classic car and automobilia auction on Sunday 2nd November at The Royal Bath & West Showground, Shepton Mallet.

“Our auctions at the Bath & West Showground are in conjunction with the Footman James Bristol Classic Car Shows. These shows are important dates in car enthusiast’s diaries and always pull in a great attendance to our sales.” Commented Matthew Whitney. “This combined with live internet bidding at these auctions results in a large audience looking to buy and provides spirited bidding with some fantastic hammer prices!”

After the Second World War, American GI’s returning to their homeland who had fallen in love with British sports cars, started to buy large numbers of the imported MG TC’s into post war America, despite only being produced in right hand drive. Although based on the pre-war MG TB, the MG TC sold 10,001 cars, more than any previous MG car. Fitted with a 1250 cc engine, it recorded a 0-60 mph time of 22.7 seconds which was considered respectable at the time.

The 1947 MG TC going under the Charterhouse hammer originally cost £527. Today, having previously been fully restored, it is estimated at £27,500-29,500.

Charterhouse is now accepting entries for this auction of classic and vintage cars on 2nd November, which is closely followed by silver, jewellery, watches and antiques with a special section of wine port & spirits on 20th & 21st November

Low Miles Mini at Charterhouse Auction

A 1968 Mini which has covered just 28,000 miles is one of the many classic cars being sold by Charterhouse in their classic car auction on Wednesday 17th September at The Royal Bath & West Showground, Shepton Mallet.

“Mini’s at auction are a perennial popular buy. There is a huge club scene, spares are readily available, they are inexpensive to insure, have simple mechanics and do not take up too much space in a garage.” Commented Charterhouse classic car expert Matthew Whitney. “Over the past few years, we have sold many classic Mini’s for staggering sums of money such as the Mini Cooper we auctioned last year from a home in Leicester. In need of repair, it still sold for over £30,000. I do not think this particular Mini will sell for such a huge amount, but there has already been good interest shown.”

This Mini going under the Charterhouse hammer has spent all its life living in Weston super Mare. Being a Super de Luxe model it came with a heater and extra chrome bumpers. When ordered by its first owner, she also purchased a set of seat belts as an optional extra. Finished in its original Almond Green paint, it is complemented with a Porcelain Green interior and Green carpets and was supplied by Central Garage, Conglesbury, Bristol. As one would expect for such a pampered motor, the car still retains its original tool kit which is possibly unused, its bill of sale and even has its original unused spare tyre fitted.

The first lady owner then kept the charming little Mini until 2000, during which time she had covered just 26,000. It was then sold to a gentleman who also lived in Weston super Mare. He used it to compliment his MG B, and used the car for high days and shows, putting on just another 2,000 miles. It would be quite an amazing feat if this Mini sold to a third owner who lives in Weston super Mare.

Charterhouse is accepting late entries for this auction of classic and vintage cars on 17th September which is closely followed by clocks, collector’s items, coins, medals and stamps on 26th September.
